Carlile Swimmers Shine at Australian Trials: Wunsch and Martin Bound for World Championships

After a thrilling week at the Australian Swimming Trials, Carlile Swimming is bursting with pride as two of our own, Olivia Wunsch and Tayla Martin, have earned their places on the Australian team for the upcoming World Championships.

Wunsch Makes her Mark

Paris Olympic relay gold medallist Olivia Wunsch delivered standout performances, securing individual swims in both the 100m and 50m Freestyle events. Olivia’s speed and determination also earned her a coveted spot in the 4x100m freestyle relay team, which is set for a fresh look following the retirement of swimming legends Emma McKeon and Bronte Campbell. Olivia’s journey from learning to swim as a toddler at Carlile to representing Australia on the world stage is a testament to her dedication and the support of our coaching team.

Martin Takes on Open Water

Tayla Martin will take her talents to the open water, representing Australia in Singapore. Tayla’s selection highlights the breadth of talent at Carlile, with swimmers excelling across a range of disciplines. Her commitment and resilience have inspired many of our younger swimmers, proving that hard work and passion can take you anywhere.

Rising Stars Gain Elite Experience

The trials weren’t just about our senior stars. Carlile’s age group champions—Maya Ostapenko, Isobel Mulchay, and Charlotte Lim—each made their debut at this elite meet. Competing alongside Australia’s best, these young swimmers gained invaluable experience and motivation. They are all hoping to follow in Olivia’s footsteps, building on the strong foundation they’ve developed at Carlile.

“Watching Olivia and Tayla succeed on the national stage inspires everyone at Carlile. Our younger swimmers see what’s possible with dedication and the right support,” says Head Coach Chris Nesbit.
