What Is Hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy uses the physical properties of water – buoyancy, resistance, and warmth – to help people move with less pain.

When you’re in water, the load on your joints drops significantly, which means you can work through movements that would be difficult or impossible on land.

Warm water relaxes muscles before you even start.

The natural resistance of water builds strength without stressing the body. Each session is planned and guided by a qualified practitioner, tailored to your specific needs and adjusted as you progress.

Who Is It For?

Most people who start hydrotherapy are dealing with something that makes regular exercise uncomfortable – joint pain, arthritis, a recent surgery, or an injury that hasn’t fully resolved.

Others come in for neurological conditions or age-related mobility changes.

Some just find land-based exercise too hard on the body and want something gentler.

You don’t need to be a strong swimmer. Sessions are structured around what your body can do, not what it can’t.

Why Choose Carlile Swim?

We’ve been helping people feel comfortable in the water for 80 years.

Hydrotherapy at Carlile is delivered by qualified practitioners in our purpose-built aquatic facilities – warm, accessible pools designed to make therapeutic movement as comfortable as possible.

Sessions are tailored to the individual. The practitioner running your sessions will assess your movement and work with you at a pace that suits your body. There’s no assumed fitness level and no pressure to keep up.
