For Ages 1-3 Years Old

At the heart of our program is a structured approach that teaches children aged 1 – 3 years old the essential building blocks of swimming – kicking, strokes, breathing, and water safety techniques. Developed by world-leading swimming professionals with over 120 years of combined expertise, Carlile Swim knows swimming inside and out.

Our lessons are about more than just learning to swim. We help children develop confidence, resilience, and the skills to be stronger, safer swimmers, opening the door to more life experiences and activities.

Swimming is a critical life skill for Australian children, one that needs to be learned, practiced, and strengthened to stay safe around water for life.

Every child is unique, so our lessons are flexible and paced to suit individual needs. With small class sizes, children get more practice and focused attention, making every session productive and enjoyable, with more swimming time and less ‘waiting for your turn’ time!

Our emphasis on technique means your child’s strokes will be smooth, strong, and efficient, you can always spot a Carlile Swim swimmer by their beautiful form and confidence in the water.

At 2.5 to 3 years old, some swimmers are emotionally ready to progress to lessons without a parent in the water, whereas some swimmers need a little more time in a parent-led lesson.

Our level-finder quiz is the best way to determine where to start your swimming journey with us. Penguins are a great class for beginners or slightly more nervous starters. Whereas children who are confident and experienced in lessons will suit Seals better. View all of Carlile’s Swimming Levels here.

At Carlile Swim, we believe swimming is an asset for life – for everyone.

Our disability lessons are delivered by qualified instructors trained in adaptive and inclusive teaching methods. Every level and skill can be tailored to suit the individual swimmer, whether that means supporting different physical or intellectual abilities, communication styles, sensory needs, or simply working at a pace that feels right.

We want every child to develop a genuine love and a sense of safety around water. To do this, we work closely with each swimmer and their family or carer to understand what they need, what they enjoy, and what they want to achieve. Parents and carers know their child best, and that knowledge informs how we teach.

These lessons are designed for children with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, sensory processing differences, or any swimmer who has found standard lesson environments difficult.

Our pools are fully enclosed, temperature-controlled, and designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for every swimmer. All facilities feature accessible entry and exit points, with changerooms and amenities on site.

Every child experiences water differently. For children on the autism spectrum, that relationship with water can come with real complexity, and real risk – research shows autistic children are up to 160 times more likely to drown than their neurotypical peers. That’s a number that shapes how we approach every one of these lessons.

Our autism lessons are calm, consistent, and built around the individual swimmer. We focus on making the water feel safe before anything else. When a child is comfortable, trust builds – and that’s when progress starts.

Standard lessons aren’t designed for autistic learners. Unpredictable environments, sensory overload, new people, new places – these can make a regular lesson difficult before it’s even started. Our lessons are structured to reduce those barriers. We follow the swimmer’s lead, keep sessions predictable, and take the time needed to build trust before introducing new skills. Progress looks different for every child, and we’re not in a hurry.

These lessons are designed for children on the autism spectrum, children with sensory processing differences, and children with anxiety around new environments or activities.

The instructors who deliver these lessons have completed specialist training in adaptive and inclusive teaching. We work closely with families throughout – you know your child best, we know the water, and getting those two things working together is how we get the best results.

To find out whether these lessons are the right fit, send our team a message – we’d love to chat and help create a plan for your child’s swimming journey.

Carlile Swim is a registered NDIS provider, supporting families with self-managed, plan-managed, and NDIA-managed plans.

If swimming and water safety connect to your NDIS goals, or your plan supports activities that build health, independence, or community participation, we can help. Lessons may be funded through an eligible NDIS plan.

Getting started is simple:

  • Step 1: Contact us and let us know you’re an NDIS participant
  • Step 2: We match your child with the right lessons
  • Step 3: Your child’s swimming journey begins

Our team is experienced with NDIS processes and happy to walk you through the steps. We’ll discuss whether group or private lessons are the better fit for your swimmer, and find the right teacher and class time for your plan.

We have qualified instructors trained in disability swimming across our locations, and lessons can be tailored to suit each swimmer individually – whether that’s supporting different abilities, communication styles, sensory needs, or pacing.

Our pools are fully enclosed, temperature-controlled, and designed to be safe, comfortable, and welcoming for every swimmer. All facilities have accessible entry and exit points, with changerooms and amenities on site.

Aqua aerobics is a water-based fitness class that combines cardio and strength exercises in a supportive, low-impact environment. The water supports your body weight, reducing strain on joints, while also adding natural resistance for a full-body workout.

No swimming experience is needed. Classes are held in shallow water, you work at your own pace, and our instructors guide you from poolside with music to keep the energy up.

Each class includes:

  • A warm-up
  • A main workout combining cardio and strength
  • A cool-down and stretch

We use equipment like noodles, dumbbells, and kickboards to vary the workout and target different muscle groups.

These classes suit a wide range of people, including:

  • Anyone wanting a full-body workout without stress on joints
  • People with arthritis, joint pain, or recovering from injury (with medical clearance)
  • Older adults looking for safe, guided exercise
  • Beginners or those returning to fitness
  • Active people wanting variety or cross-training

The benefits go beyond fitness. Aqua aerobics builds cardio capacity without high impact, improves balance and everyday mobility, and offers a friendly, social environment that’s good for mental health as much as physical.

Our instructors are fully qualified and experienced working with older adults, beginners, and rehab participants. Safety and correct technique are always the priority.

Class times, pricing, and pass options vary by location, and seniors’ discounts may apply. Contact our team for details and to find the class that suits you.

Hydrotherapy uses the physical properties of water – buoyancy, resistance, and warmth – to help people move with less pain. When you’re in water, the load on your joints drops significantly, which means you can work through movements that would be difficult or impossible on land. Warm water relaxes muscles before you even start, and the natural resistance of water builds strength without stressing the body.

Each session is planned and guided by a qualified practitioner, tailored to your specific needs and adjusted as you progress.

Most people who start hydrotherapy are dealing with something that makes regular exercise uncomfortable – joint pain, arthritis, a recent surgery, or an injury that hasn’t fully resolved. Others come in for neurological conditions or age-related mobility changes. Some just find land-based exercise too hard on the body and want something gentler.

You don’t need to be a strong swimmer. Sessions are structured around what your body can do, not what it can’t. There’s no assumed fitness level and no pressure to keep up.

Our hydrotherapy pools are indoors and heated, with accessible entry and exit points, changerooms, and on-site amenities. If you have specific access requirements, contact the team at your nearest location before your first visit – they’re happy to help.

To find out about session availability or to make an enquiry, contact our team and let us know you’re interested in hydrotherapy.

If you’d like to learn more, please click here for more information about our Hydrotherapy sessions.

Swim teacher supports a baby in an indoor pool during a WaterBabies lesson, holding them securely as they practise gentle water familiarisation and early confidence skills.

Kids should be starting to swim as early as possible. We offer swimming lessons to children as young as 4-months old. Between the ages of 4-months and 3-years old, our swimming lessons teach essential skills that build confidence, safety awareness, and get them comfortable in a structured learning environment.

We then progressively increase skill, distance and time swimming to enable swimmers to be stronger, smoother swimmers through our learn to swim and stroke development programs, which are challenging yet fun!

In our 80-years of experience, we have developed a deep understanding that fostering strong swimming skills starts from a young age.

Beyond learning an important skill (staying safe in the water), learning to swim is a fun activity that can benefit children of all ages. Swimming is low-impact exercise that promotes cardiovascular health, improves endurance, and builds overall strength.

For kids, learning to swim is also a great way to introduce a classroom style environment where they can socialise with other kids, engage with a friendly instructor, and conquer set achievements!

Yes – all of our instructors are certified by one of Australia’s leading industry partners, Austswim.

All teachers have undergone a comprehensive learn-to-swim training course and regularly undergo refresher courses, workshops, and recertification to ensure we’re always working with up-to-date best practices across all swimming lessons.
